ASPNetLink is a venture managed by Drake Analytics, Inc., a Seattle-based technology services firm. Drake Analytics, Inc. was founded in 1998 by members of the Drake Holdings Group, who continue to serve as advisors.
The original web service development practice of Drake Analytics, Inc. was a venture called PerlPeople.com which provided contract programming services using the Perl language. At the time, in the 1990s, Perl was the language of choice for developing web services. However, more recently, with the popularity of PHP and Python and better development environments for Java, these languages have started to become more prominent while Perl's usage for new applications has been in decline. ASPNetLink was created to provide software development services similar to PerlPeople but in other languages. Eventually, in 2003, the PerlPeople portfolio was sold and ASPNetLink became the sole Drake Analytics, Inc. venture dedicated to web service development.
Late in 2003, ASPNetLink began providing hosting services to clients because, increasingly, the technical know-how and security requirements for running large online applications became prohibitive for many small businesses. Rather than pay thousands per month for full-time technical staff, one can outsource to ASPNetLink the work and just spend hundreds.
